There are details alerting viewers to arbor day, open house, bake sale, and pancake breakfast. Birdhouses with wings hover next to a prompt to "join the Indian Rock Schoolhouse". If you get close you can see it's on Mygat road and on the web.

Indian Rock School window display

Community collaborations... Larry Havens' window needs a fix up, and the Indian rock Schoolhouse can use all the publicity it can get... So I made a cardboard prop and will install it later today...
Tried to paint it Plein air, on site, and found 40 degrees does not make a good painting outside day- I was FREEZING!!!!
So it's a little wacky.



Since I last posted I have been all over the map- in my head and across the geography... NYC, Bard Hessell Mueseum, Howland Cultural center... alone and with groups of friends... plenty to laugh, mull, state.

Even the squirrels are feasting

After the harvest moon, the local community gathers together at the Indian rock schoolhouse to celebrate the end of summer, play softball, and praise all our teachers. A couple hundred showed up today and enjoyed BBQ chicken with fixings cooked by the Lions Club. Back at home...on my deck, the acorns seem to pelt down in angry bursts. When I feel brave enough I cover my head and sweep them up. I think I will gather a few of the nuts for the future... an art project, a squirrel meal, a forest, Christmas gifts?

Painting performance at the school house

Yesterday, in honor of Indian Rock School's arbor day, Rudy Eschbach and I took our show on the road! Well- we just came up with a show. He played the guitar while a crowd of 2nd grade kids from Webutuck sang the "Garden Song" and I painted the lyrics. It was a lot of fun. I had forgotten how wonderful paint can be!!!!

Indian Rock School Community Picnic

What a wonderful, almost dry day it was for the whole community to get out and get together! The after-school boys club were busy signing copies of their book, A Year in the Life. The bunch of them, full of laughter and stories, lent a mischievous and historic (of course) air to the morning. Nancy Offenhauser, another local celebrity,  was signing copies of her memoir, Healing Cancer Peacefully... a must read if you have, or know anybody with, cancer. My walkway flag project got a real boost from participants young, old, and in between! After a couple hours almost all the flags are finished. What was nice was that some of the participants said they had no artistic talent and yet were willing to try and pleased with the results! I missed the pie baking contest and the kids games and Abe Lincoln's birthday cake.

The empty nests

Had to make a couple quick signs for The Indian Rock School Community day picnic...While searching for stored signs in the various barns on the property I found two empty nests that practically fell at my feet.
I thought it something I should tackle... The empty nest. Still in the orange phase. 24 x 18 inches on panel SOLD- thank you, and shipped to Baltimore!
