lesson plan: Can you resist palm reading?

This time of year an art teacher struggles with keeping the attention of students pulled in a number of directions. Palm reading definitely pulls them in. I provide them with laminated sheets that contain generalizations pertaining to the shape of fingers and palms, the direction and depth of the life, head, and heart lines, and what it corresponds to in personality types.
Then we do sample drawings with oil pastels and brushing waterbased inks over them. The pastel resists the ink and only lets it stain the empty spaces.




The kids were asked to draw two hands- one was kept empty of any color (oil pastel), the other was filled to the edges of their head, heart and life lines. Words from their readings were added to the over all design. Here are a handful of them. Can you resist palm reading?
