Post-holiday neighborhood blues and greens
Just a month ago these trees had a central role- I imagine- in our universe. Decorated with baubles and tokens, they've fallen from grace and now every street corner has one. I wonder how many trees are cut and killed in the name of Christ? (ndp)
PS. No palm trees were killed in the name of art while making paper.
when I lived in NYC I always went home for Christmas and therefore never had a tree for Christmas. But every year when i went back to the City I would always find a tree lying in the gutter, with perhaps one piece of glitter remaining, to show it was once glorious and loved --- and I'd pick it up and take it to my apartment, whem, again, inevitably, I would have to be the one to relegate it back to the gutter sometime toward the end of January.....
Tilly Strauss is a New England painter recently relocated to the southern side of Miami. Her whimsical works both hide and reveal a domestic quietude with restless escapism. Contrived out of found text, poetry, paint and soul searching, her studio work is featured on the website www.tillystudio.com
Right now Tilly is taking a break from the daily painting to question her muse and teach others where to look.
